What We Do In Worthing

Electrical Fault Finding

Intermittent faults rarely announce themselves in Worthing's older houses. We test circuit by circuit until the cause is pinned down, whether it hides above a Broadwater loft conversion or behind the thick walls of a Tarring cottage.

RCD & Fuse Box Tripping

A board that refuses to hold its reset is telling you something. We identify the circuit or appliance dragging it down, in a Findon Valley semi or a West Worthing flat, and keep everything else running while the repair is arranged.

Complete or Partial Power Loss

One floor dark, or the whole property. We establish quickly whether the fault sits inside your walls or on the network's side of the meter, so you chase the right people and nobody pays for a wasted visit.

Sparking or Damaged Sockets

A cracked faceplate, a buzzing switch or scorching around a plug means the accessory has failed, not just the appliance. Switch it off at the board if you can reach it safely; we replace the damaged fitting and test the circuit behind it.

Emergency Lighting Repairs

Stairwells in converted buildings, care schemes and business premises across Worthing rely on emergency lighting that only proves itself when the mains drops. We repair failed fittings and battery packs and test the system properly afterwards.

Damaged Cables & Wiring

With so many Worthing houses mid-renovation, drilled and nailed cables are a weekly find, alongside rodent damage in lofts and insulation that has simply worn out. We locate the damaged section, repair it correctly and test before we leave.

Who We Are

Qualified Electricians,
Answering at Any Hour

Day or night, our Worthing emergency electrical service is available when a fault needs professional attention. We'll gather as much information as possible during your call and provide practical advice about what to switch off or avoid using until the electrical installation can be checked.

Work is carried out in line with BS 7671, with Part P notification provided where required. If testing identifies additional repairs beyond the immediate emergency, these are discussed and agreed before work continues, with written confirmation available for landlords, agents or other responsible parties.

Common Call-Outs

Common Electrical
Emergencies in Worthing

The following make up the bulk of the calls we receive. Any of them is worth a telephone call, and several should not wait for daylight.

  • Fuse box tripping without warning
  • RCD refusing to stay in
  • Power missing from part of the property
  • Burning smell from a socket
  • Consumer unit buzzing
  • Lights flickering or failing
  • Sparking at sockets or switches
  • Wiring affected by water
  • Cut or damaged cable
  • No supply to the property

While You Wait For Us

Switch off the affected circuit at the consumer unit if it can be reached safely, and leave it isolated. Please unplug the appliance that was in use at the time.

Damaged cable, heat-marked sockets and damp wiring should be left well alone. A breaker that trips straight back on is doing its job correctly.

Smoke, a burning smell or any suspicion of fire means leaving the building and contacting the emergency services first.

Fault Finding

Finding the Fault,
Not Just the Symptom

An intermittent trip that behaves perfectly while you are watching still has a cause. We work through the installation circuit by circuit with proper test equipment, so the repair fixes what is actually wrong rather than guessing at it.

What To Expect

How an Emergency Call-Out Works

01

Call Us

Explain what has gone wrong. An electrician takes the call, at any hour and on any day of the year.

02

Arrival & Pricing

The attendance rate and a realistic arrival window are confirmed with you before anyone travels.

03

Test & Diagnose

Safe isolation is carried out first, then testing establishes the cause, which is explained without jargon.

04

Repair or Make Safe

Stocked vehicles mean most faults are repaired on the first visit, with anything outstanding left safe.

A photo of the fault
gets you a faster fix

Snap the board, socket or scorch mark and send it over when you call; the engineer arrives already knowing what parts the job is likely to need.

Worthing Power Failures

Narrowing It Down In Minutes

Power loss tells a story before the board is even opened. The shape of what has gone dark points us at the right part of the installation.

Full Power Loss Breakdown → 0333 360 6904

Lost power in the whole house

Nothing anywhere means the problem is at the origin rather than out in the wiring. We check whether neighbours are affected, then test the main switch, the meter tails and the incoming supply. If the service cut-out fuse has ruptured, that is a network operator job and you are told immediately.

No power upstairs at all

A whole floor out usually comes down to one or two devices at the board. One residual device commonly protects several circuits at once, so leakage on any of them takes the lot down together. Testing at the board separates that from an open circuit, which operates nothing at all.

Sockets not working in the back bedroom

Nothing operated at the board but the sockets are dead? That means the run has been broken somewhere, not that it has faulted. Loose terminals, a failed spur or a joint box under the floor are the usual places. We isolate, test continuity along the circuit and work back to where it stops.

Consumer unit trips several times a week

Repeat trips across a week usually mean accumulated earth current rather than one dramatic fault. Several ways each contributing a small amount will nudge a residual device past its limit, and damp reaching outdoor accessories adds to that total. Measuring the standing figure comes first.

One circuit trips every single day

Same circuit, same hour, and something on it is running to a schedule. Immersion heaters, heating controls and freezers on a defrost cycle come up repeatedly. The first job is establishing whether a breaker is going on current or a residual device on leakage, because those lead in different directions.

Power trips when I use the microwave

One appliance, every time, narrows it to two things: the appliance itself, or how heavily loaded that circuit already is. A microwave pulls hard on start-up, enough to move a breaker on a busy ring. If a residual device is dropping instead, leakage inside the unit is more likely. We test both.

Making safe comes first, then we explain what we found and what putting it right involves. Most faults we clear on the same visit.

On The Job

One Visit
Wherever Practical

Vehicles are stocked with the components that fail most frequently, including consumer units, RCBOs, accessories and cable, alongside the test instruments needed to establish where a fault genuinely sits.

Most call-outs are therefore completed during the same visit. Where a part must be ordered, the installation is left in a safe condition and the return appointment is arranged before we leave rather than afterwards.

We run a restaurant, so a dead circuit on a Friday night is a disaster. They talked me through shutting it down safely on the phone and had an electrician on site before the dinner rush ended.

Questions

FAQs Made Simple

FIND YOUR ANSWERS
Can you come out tonight?

Yes. We run a 24 hour rota that covers evenings, weekends and bank holidays. Call and you get a real arrival window before anyone sets off, not a vague promise.

My storage heaters are as old as the house. Can they be repaired, or is it new heaters or nothing?

Most storage heater faults come down to a failed element, a stuck thermostat or a tired charge controller, and all three are repairable if parts are still made for your model. Where a heater is genuinely obsolete we say so and isolate it safely so the rest of the circuit keeps working. What we will not do is condemn a whole system at midnight to sell you a new one.

Why do the outside lights on my seafront house keep corroding and tripping the electrics?

Salt air is the culprit. Within a few streets of the front it works into fittings, corrodes the terminals and lets moisture track across live parts, which is what trips your RCD on wet nights. Standard fittings are not built for it. Coastal-grade IP-rated fittings with stainless fixings and properly sealed glands last far longer, and that is what we install as the permanent fix.

The power has gone off in my retirement flat. Is that my responsibility or the building's?

It depends which side of your meter the fault sits. If your neighbours and the communal hallway lights are out too, the problem is likely the building's supply and the managing agent or network operator needs to act. If it is only your flat, check your own consumer unit first. Either way we can attend, work out which side the fault is on, and put it in writing for the agent if it is not yours to fix.
