Yes. We run a 24 hour rota that covers evenings, weekends and bank holidays. Call and you get a real arrival window before anyone sets off, not a vague promise.

My storage heaters are as old as the house. Can they be repaired, or is it new heaters or nothing?

Most storage heater faults come down to a failed element, a stuck thermostat or a tired charge controller, and all three are repairable if parts are still made for your model. Where a heater is genuinely obsolete we say so and isolate it safely so the rest of the circuit keeps working. What we will not do is condemn a whole system at midnight to sell you a new one.

Why do the outside lights on my seafront house keep corroding and tripping the electrics?

Salt air is the culprit. Within a few streets of the front it works into fittings, corrodes the terminals and lets moisture track across live parts, which is what trips your RCD on wet nights. Standard fittings are not built for it. Coastal-grade IP-rated fittings with stainless fixings and properly sealed glands last far longer, and that is what we install as the permanent fix.

The power has gone off in my retirement flat. Is that my responsibility or the building's?

It depends which side of your meter the fault sits. If your neighbours and the communal hallway lights are out too, the problem is likely the building's supply and the managing agent or network operator needs to act. If it is only your flat, check your own consumer unit first. Either way we can attend, work out which side the fault is on, and put it in writing for the agent if it is not yours to fix.

Lost power in the whole house

Nothing anywhere means the problem is at the origin rather than out in the wiring. We check whether neighbours are affected, then test the main switch, the meter tails and the incoming supply. If the service cut-out fuse has ruptured, that is a network operator job and you are told immediately.

No power upstairs at all

A whole floor out usually comes down to one or two devices at the board. One residual device commonly protects several circuits at once, so leakage on any of them takes the lot down together. Testing at the board separates that from an open circuit, which operates nothing at all.

Sockets not working in the back bedroom

Nothing operated at the board but the sockets are dead? That means the run has been broken somewhere, not that it has faulted. Loose terminals, a failed spur or a joint box under the floor are the usual places. We isolate, test continuity along the circuit and work back to where it stops.

Consumer unit trips several times a week

Repeat trips across a week usually mean accumulated earth current rather than one dramatic fault. Several ways each contributing a small amount will nudge a residual device past its limit, and damp reaching outdoor accessories adds to that total. Measuring the standing figure comes first.

One circuit trips every single day

Same circuit, same hour, and something on it is running to a schedule. Immersion heaters, heating controls and freezers on a defrost cycle come up repeatedly. The first job is establishing whether a breaker is going on current or a residual device on leakage, because those lead in different directions.

Power trips when I use the microwave

One appliance, every time, narrows it to two things: the appliance itself, or how heavily loaded that circuit already is. A microwave pulls hard on start-up, enough to move a breaker on a busy ring. If a residual device is dropping instead, leakage inside the unit is more likely. We test both.
