Emergency Call-Outs
From a family home off Grinstead Lane to a unit on the business park, we trace faults with test instruments rather than guesswork, then tell you plainly what failed and what fixing it takes.
One circuit leaking to earth can hold a whole board down. We find which one and why, and leave everything healthy running while the culprit is repaired.
If the whole street is dark, that is UK Power Networks' job and we say so for free. If it is only your home or unit, we work out which side of the board the failure sits and restore what can safely run.
A socket that spits, scorches or smells hot gets isolated first and questioned second. We replace the accessory, inspect what feeds it and test the circuit before it carries load again.
Shops on Lancing's parades, communal stairwells and workplace escape routes all rely on emergency lighting that has to pass its tests. We repair failed fittings, batteries and circuits and leave the system doing its job.
Cable caught by a drill bit, crushed during flooring work or simply past its service life is located, isolated and repaired properly rather than taped over and forgotten.
Who We Are
For urgent electrical problems across Lancing, we provide a 24-hour call-out service designed to get faults investigated quickly and safely. The first step is understanding what has happened so we can advise you on any immediate precautions before travelling to the property.
Repairs are carried out in line with BS 7671 and applicable Part P requirements. If further remedial work becomes necessary, you'll receive a clear explanation before deciding whether you'd like us to proceed.
Common Call-Outs
These are the faults behind most of the calls we take. If yours is not listed, please ring and we will advise where it sits.
Switch the affected circuit off at the consumer unit where it is safe to reach, and leave it isolated. Please unplug whatever was running at the moment the fault appeared.
Damaged cable and heat-damaged sockets should be left alone, and wiring that water has reached must be avoided. Forcing a tripped breaker back into position only conceals the fault.
Any smoke or burning smell should be treated as a fire. Leave the property, contact the emergency services, and then telephone us.

Fault Finding
An intermittent trip that behaves perfectly while you are watching still has a cause. We work through the installation circuit by circuit with proper test equipment, so the repair fixes what is actually wrong rather than guessing at it.

Explain the fault to us. An electrician takes the call directly, including overnight and at weekends.
A realistic arrival window is given along with the call-out rate, both before anyone leaves.
Safe isolation is carried out first, then testing pinpoints the cause, which is explained in plain terms.
Most jobs are finished on that visit. Anything that cannot be completed is isolated and made safe first.
A quick picture of your fuse board or the damage helps us judge urgency and bring the right parts first time.
CALL 0333 360 6904No Power, No Warning
Sockets do not come back on by themselves, and a board that has been reset three times is telling you something. Here is what normally sits behind it.
All Power Loss Symptoms → 0333 360 6904Total loss lands on the incoming side: the cut-out fuse, the tails, or a main switch that has failed. Where the main switch will not latch at all, a fault common to every way is holding it down, so the board is split before anything is restored.
Two residual devices, each looking after a group of ways, and one earth fault under either removes that whole group. That is why the loss follows the board rather than the rooms. Ways are restored in small batches until it releases again.
Conservatories rarely receive a way of their own. The sockets are usually spurred from whatever was nearest at the time, with the joint buried behind plaster or sitting in a roof void collecting condensation. Locating that connection is most of the work; remaking it takes minutes.
Nothing operates at random. Immersion heaters on timers, freezers running a defrost cycle and security lighting coming on into damp air all raise earth current at fixed hours. We look at what switches itself on before anything is pulled apart.
Contained faults are the easier ones. Either that single way is being asked for more current than its rating allows, or something on it has shorted. We divide the circuit into sections and test each length until the damaged one identifies itself.
Elements degrade internally and pass current to earth long before they stop heating, and the flex near the handle suffers as well. We insulation test the dryer away from the installation, which gives a definite answer instead of swapping sockets and hoping.
Every job ends with the installation left safe, not just switched back on. If a repair has to wait on parts, the affected circuit stays isolated and clearly labelled.

Who calls us
Three groups account for the bulk of our Lancing call-outs, and the service does not vary between them.
Domestic emergency cover for power failures, fuse boxes that keep tripping, dead sockets and failed lighting circuits.
Repairs on rented property for landlords and letting agents, with written details suitable for passing directly to a tenant.
Commercial work for shops, offices and industrial units, including three-phase supplies and emergency lighting systems.
What We Fix
The number reaches an electrician rather than an answering service or a message-taking centre. There is no callback queue and no waiting until the morning to discover whether anybody is attending.
It also means the advice offered during that first conversation is properly informed. Whether the correct course is to isolate a circuit and wait, or to have somebody attend immediately, you will be told plainly which it is.
Also covered
Lancing sits on the coast road between Worthing and Shoreham-by-Sea, and the engineers who attend here cover both, along with Hove on the way back towards our Brighton base.
FAQ

Less than you might fear. Single-storey homes are the kindest to rewire because most circuits run through the loft and drop down the walls, so there is far less floor lifting than in a two-storey house. There's still disruption: chases in the plaster, some boards up in certain rooms. An emergency visit makes the immediate fault safe; the rewire itself gets surveyed and quoted properly afterwards.
Almost certainly not. Older rewireable boards have no RCD protection, which BS 7671 requires for new circuits, and an electric shower alone can draw more than an old board was designed to distribute. New circuits for a conversion are also notifiable under Part P. A fair share of our Lancing call-outs are boards that were given the extra load without the upgrade.
Noticeably faster. Salt-laden air corrodes the terminals inside outdoor sockets, lights and connection boxes, and the damage stays hidden until damp gets in and trips the board. If your fittings face the sea, properly IP-rated replacements and a periodic inspection are worth having. Where corrosion caused the fault, we can usually fit coastal-grade gear during the emergency visit.
Yes. We run a 24 hour rota that covers evenings, weekends and bank holidays. Call and you get a real arrival window before anyone sets off, not a vague promise.
