Emergency Call-Outs

What We Do In Hastings

Electrical Fault Finding

When a circuit dies somewhere in a four-storey Warrior Square conversion, guessing is expensive. We test methodically from the board outwards until the fault has nowhere left to hide.

RCD & Fuse Box Tripping

A board that refuses to hold in usually has one culprit circuit dragging it down. We find it, isolate it and leave everything healthy switched on, whether you're in a Silverhill semi or a St Leonards flat.

Complete or Partial Power Loss

Half the house dead in Bohemia, a whole shop dark on Queens Road. We establish quickly whether the fault sits in your installation or on the incoming supply, and get moving on whichever answer we find.

Sparking or Damaged Sockets

A crackling or scorched socket is a fire rehearsing. Switch the circuit off, stop using it and call; sockets in hard-worked Hastings lets have usually earned their retirement.

Emergency Lighting Repairs

Guesthouses, HMOs and venues across Hastings depend on escape lighting that works when it's tested. We repair failed fittings and leave behind the paperwork your next inspection will ask for.

Damaged Cables & Wiring

Cable nicked during a refit, chewed in a loft or simply worn out by decades of service. We make the damage safe, replace what has failed and check the rest of the run while we're in there.

Common Call-Outs

Common Electrical
Emergencies in Hastings

These are the faults we are called to most regularly. Any of them is a reasonable reason to telephone, regardless of the time.

  • Fuse box tripping constantly
  • RCD that will not reset
  • Part of the property with no supply
  • Burning smell at a socket
  • Buzzing or humming board
  • Flickering lights
  • Sparking when unplugging
  • Wet wiring
  • Damaged or cut cable
  • Whole property without power

While You Wait For Us

Where the board is safely accessible, switch the affected circuit off and leave it isolated, and unplug whatever was operating when the fault began.

Damaged cable, heat-marked sockets and damp wiring should all be left alone entirely. A breaker that refuses to stay in position is functioning correctly.

Any sign of fire, smoke or burning means evacuating the property and contacting the emergency services. Please call us once you are safely outside.

Fault Finding

Finding the Fault,
Not Just the Symptom

An intermittent trip that behaves perfectly while you are watching still has a cause. We work through the installation circuit by circuit with proper test equipment, so the repair fixes what is actually wrong rather than guessing at it.

What To Expect

How an Emergency Call-Out Works

01

Call Us

Explain what has failed. An electrician answers the telephone, including at night, at weekends and over bank holidays.

02

Arrival & Pricing

A realistic arrival window and the call-out rate are agreed with you before anyone travels.

03

Test & Diagnose

The circuit is isolated safely first, then tested properly so that the real cause is found rather than assumed.

04

Repair or Make Safe

Stocked vehicles mean the majority of faults are resolved that same visit, with anything outstanding left safe.

Send a photo
before you panic

A picture of the board, the socket or the scorch mark often tells us what you're dealing with before anyone has to travel.

Power Gone Again

What The Fuse Box Is Telling You

Sound, smell and what was running at the moment it went are worth more than any guess. Work through those before anything gets reset a second time.

Why Your Power Keeps Dropping → 0333 360 6904

Power went off with a bang

A bang means an arc, so something has shorted hard. Usually that is a lamp or an appliance letting go. If nothing on the board has moved and the house is dead, the service fuse may have ruptured, and that belongs to the network operator. Stop resetting entirely if there is any smell of burning.

Sockets dead on the top floor

Sockets dead on one floor while the rest of the property still works almost always means a single circuit has failed or tripped. We identify which circuit it is, find where it breaks down and repair it, rather than resetting it and hoping.

No power in the bathroom

Bathrooms seldom have a way of their own. Lighting and the extractor usually hang off the upstairs lighting circuit while a shower takes a heavy way to itself, so one dead bathroom can be two unrelated faults. Years of steam does the damage, and damp fittings pass current to earth.

Fuse box keeps tripping

Which device operated decides the entire approach. A residual device covering a group means earth current somewhere within that group, and where one device carries half a board a single damp fitting blacks out that side. A lone breaker keeps the fault inside one circuit, which is a much shorter search.

One breaker trips but the rest are fine

One breaker, one circuit, two candidates: excessive current, or a short within it. Kitchens usually turn out to be demand, once two high-draw appliances end up sharing a run. A short shows on the insulation readings, and from there the circuit gets halved until the damaged length stands alone.

Dishwasher keeps tripping the RCD

Dishwashers heat their own water, and an element breaking down inside passes current to earth for the residual device to detect. It normally shows during the hot part of the programme. Insulation testing the machine settles it, and a clean result sends us to the socket and the circuit behind it.

No circuit goes back on until it has been tested and is fit to run. If the repair runs past the call-out, the property is left safe and the return visit booked before we go.

What We Fix

Completed on the First Visit
Wherever Possible

Our vehicles carry consumer units, RCBOs, accessories and cable covering the faults that arise most frequently, together with the instruments required to establish where a problem actually sits.

As a result, the majority of call-outs are completed during the same visit. Where a component genuinely has to be ordered, the installation is left in a safe condition and a return appointment is agreed before we leave.

FAQs Made Simple

FIND YOUR ANSWERS
My house in the Old Town is listed. Can you do emergency work without listed building consent?

Making a dangerous circuit safe, isolating it at the board or swapping a failed accessory like for like, does not normally need consent. What does need care is anything invasive: chasing new cable routes into historic timber is exactly the kind of alteration conservation officers care about. So we stop the danger on the night, keep disruption to the fabric at zero, and plan any rewiring around surface-run or minimally invasive routes you can clear with the council first.

I still have a fuse box with rewireable fuses. Do I have to replace it tonight?

Rewireable boards are still legal to use, and plenty of Hastings homes run on them, but they give you no RCD protection and a blown fuse is usually a symptom of something else. On an emergency visit we find out why it blew, make that circuit safe, and refit the correct fuse wire rather than whatever was jammed in last time. Upgrading to a modern consumer unit is planned daytime work, and we will tell you honestly whether yours can wait.

Can you come out tonight?

Yes. We run a 24 hour rota that covers evenings, weekends and bank holidays. Call and you get a real arrival window before anyone sets off, not a vague promise.

I rent a studio in a converted building in St Leonards and the wiring seems shared with other units. Whose problem is a fault?

Converted shops and warehouses often have circuits that were added piecemeal as units were split, so what feeds what is genuinely unclear until someone traces it. In an emergency we make the fault safe first regardless of whose meter it sits behind, then identify which supply and circuit is responsible so you and the landlord know where you stand. For landlords, an EICR on the whole installation is the proper next step, and we can put the findings in writing.
