What We Do In Peacehaven

Electrical Fault Finding

Two houses side by side in Peacehaven can carry completely different installations, so we work from measurements rather than assumptions, and we don't stop at the first thing that looks wrong. The cause gets found and proven before we call the job done.

RCD & Fuse Box Tripping

A trip that keeps dropping usually means one circuit is leaking current and dragging the rest down with it. We identify which one, disconnect it safely and keep the remainder of the house running while the repair is agreed.

Complete or Partial Power Loss

Whether the whole avenue has gone dark or just your place, we establish quickly whether the fault sits on your installation, on a run to an outbuilding, or on the network's side, and tell you who fixes what.

Sparking or Damaged Sockets

Sockets crack, scorch and work loose, and in an older Peacehaven home you can't assume what condition the cable behind the faceplate is in. We replace the accessory and inspect the termination it was hiding.

Emergency Lighting Repairs

The shops along the South Coast Road, care settings and communal buildings all depend on emergency lighting that only proves itself when the mains fails. We repair failed fittings, replace tired batteries and test the system properly.

Damaged Cables & Wiring

A screw through a cable during a dormer refit, rodent damage in a roof space, a garden supply cut during landscaping: we locate the break, repair or re-route the run, and test it before anything goes back on.

Common Call-Outs

Common Electrical
Emergencies in Peacehaven

Most of our call-outs concern one of the following. If you are unsure how urgent your own situation is, that is what the telephone call is for.

  • Fuse box that will not stay on
  • RCD dropping out repeatedly
  • Part of the property without power
  • Burning smell near a socket
  • Consumer unit making a noise
  • Lights flickering
  • Sparking accessories
  • Water close to wiring
  • Cable cut or damaged
  • Total loss of supply

While You Wait For Us

Switch the failed circuit off at the consumer unit where it is safe to do so, and leave it isolated. Please unplug whatever was running when the fault started.

Leave alone any damaged cable, scorched socket or wiring close to water. Resetting a breaker that trips straight back serves only to heat the fault further.

If there is smoke or a smell of burning, leave the building and contact the emergency services before telephoning an electrician.

Fault Finding

Finding the Fault,
Not Just the Symptom

An intermittent trip that behaves perfectly while you are watching still has a cause. We work through the installation circuit by circuit with proper test equipment, so the repair fixes what is actually wrong rather than guessing at it.

What To Expect

How an Emergency Call-Out Works

01

Call Us

Describe the fault to us. A qualified electrician takes the call, day or night, weekends included.

02

Arrival & Pricing

The call-out rate and an honest arrival window are agreed with you before an electrician leaves.

03

Test & Diagnose

Safe isolation comes first, then the circuit is tested until the cause can be identified and explained.

04

Repair or Make Safe

Most repairs are completed that visit. Anything requiring a part is made safe with a return arranged.

Send a photo,
save a journey

A picture of the fusebox, the scorched fitting or the tripped switch helps us judge urgency and arrive carrying the right parts.

Trip Switch Trouble

The Trip Switch Is Doing Its Job

A device that has operated is a warning, not the fault. What it protects, and what it responds to, sets the direction of the search.

Why Trip Switches Trip → 0333 360 6904

Power cut out and hasn't come back

If every light and socket is dead and nothing on the board has moved, the loss is above it: the incoming supply, the cut-out fuse, or the tails to the main switch. A live test at the origin is the first thing done on arrival.

Half the house went off and stayed off

Older split boards run two groups, each with its own residual device, so one earth fault removes that entire side. We isolate the affected ways, restore the device, then reconnect ways individually until the faulty one declares itself.

No power in the back room

A broken conductor or a failed terminal removes supply beyond it without operating anything, which is why the board looks entirely normal. Common in bungalows where a later extension or garage feed was spurred from existing wiring. We test continuity onward from the last live point.

Trip switch goes straight back off

That means the fault is still sitting there and the device will not allow the circuit to be energised. A residual device behaving this way has found a path to earth; a breaker has a short or a heavy overload. Everything is isolated, then brought back in stages.

Only one circuit keeps tripping

Repeat trips on one device mean either too much demand on that circuit or a fault in something connected to it. Heating elements are the usual suspects, since kettles, washing machines and immersion heaters all begin passing current to earth as they degrade. Testing with appliances out, then back in, settles it.

Main switch won't stay on

On many boards the main switch is a plain isolator, so one that will not latch has failed mechanically, or the board has. Where it doubles as a whole-installation residual device, there is earth leakage across the property, often borrowed neutrals left behind by old alterations. Telling those apart is the first job.

Nothing gets left energised on a fault. If a full repair needs parts we can't source overnight, we isolate what's affected, restore the rest, and come back to finish.

What We Fix

What You Are Quoted
Is What You Pay

The call-out rate is given first, by telephone. The price for the repair follows on site, once the fault has been established rather than guessed at.

Nothing is added afterwards. Where the work turns out to extend beyond the emergency repair, that becomes a separate conversation with its own figure, held before any of it is carried out.

FAQs Made Simple

FIND YOUR ANSWERS
Can you come out tonight?

Yes. We run a 24 hour rota that covers evenings, weekends and bank holidays. Call and you get a real arrival window before anyone sets off, not a vague promise.

If my wiring is a mix of eras, does the whole bungalow need rewiring?

Not automatically. Mixed-era wiring is normal in Peacehaven and much of it tests fine. What matters is the condition of each circuit: rubber-insulated cable, scorched joints or a fuse board with no RCD protection are genuine reasons to upgrade, and an inspection and test (an EICR) tells you which circuits are sound and which are not, so you replace only what needs replacing.

How disruptive is a rewire in a single-storey home?

Kinder than in most houses, honestly. With everything on one level the bulk of the cabling runs through the loft rather than being chased down through upstairs floors, so there is less lifting of boards and less mess. The awkward part in Peacehaven is often the loft itself, where deep insulation or boarding covers the runs, and we plan around that before starting.

Why do outdoor sockets and lights fail so quickly this close to the cliff?

Salt is the culprit. Air coming straight off the Channel carries it into terminals, seals and fixings, corroding standard fittings years ahead of their inland lifespan. When we replace exterior gear on the clifftop side of town we fit coastal-grade, properly IP-rated fittings with corrosion-resistant glands, which last far longer for a small extra cost.
